Our Adoption Process

Our adoption process may take a bit longer than expected, but please be patient... We do this to make sure that the animals we rescue end up in the best situation possible — because that’s what they deserve!

Pre-Adoption Form

The pre-adoption form starts the process. Out of respect to our fosters, we do not meet up with people we do not know until we receive a completed pet pre-adoption form so that we can get to know folks. If it is not a good fit, we try to inform early on that it could pose an unhappy adoption for all so people are not left hanging.

Screening of Pre-Adoption Forms

We often take a week or so to collect pre-adoption forms to give a number of people a chance and to look for a good fit. We do not do “first come, first served”. We try to determine the absolute best fit for the pet and living situation. We only adopt within the state of Arizona, we do not adopt out-of-state. We also discourage surprise “gifts” and impulse adoptions — this gives people time to think things through.

Home Check

Our short-listed folks are then asked for a video of their home and especially their yard to see the full fence line to make sure it is “escape-proof” and suitable for pets. If local, a home visit with social distancing can be done. At that time we can ask about any corrective measures for fencing or hazardous objects.

Meet & Greet

The final steps are meeting with the full adopter family (including other pets if possible) and the animal you want to adopt. Next is the meet and greet at the adopter's home to make sure the resident pet is ok with a newcomer. At that time we will go over all the forms — mandatory spay/neuter agreement, vaccine records, what is covered medically, and what does not fall under our pet adoption fee.

Follow-up

After adoption, you will get a couple of follow-up phone calls to make sure things are going smoothly. We love photos of the happy pet in its new home!
