Stories of our amazing Trapping/Rescue team!

Precious Hound Girl’s Story

In early July. we received a help request from a very kind compassionate lady named Rita Cantu for a hound dog that she had seen on the road leading to Drake Cement Plant outside of Paulden on Monday when she was out looking for stone..

A tourist that stopped at one of the pull- offs flagged them down to tell them there was a dog there but they couldn't catch. Rita and her Partner Jay went into immediate action supplying her with food and water for the next few days until they could figure out what to do to bring this beautiful girl to safety.

One of Rita's friends referred us to her and she immediately reached out and we immediately said yes let's do this!

Knowing the area and YHT trapping many dogs that were dumped on this stretch, we made plans to meet Rita later in that day. Upon arriving our hound girl was nowhere in sight but we knew that since Rita did amazing leaving food and water multiple times she would be back.

We were having trouble with service on our cameras so we had to manually check trap. Rita, Mackenzie Dell and I were taking turns going out. Upon arriving at 4 am the next morning something had ate the trail of chicken going in but stopped right at the trip plate of the trap and backed out any wild animal would have went all the way in to the mother lode of chicken in the back and the trap would have went off.

Had to be her but we needed confirmation. Re baited trap and let Mac and Rita know. The trap was manually checked a few more times until we could get back out there with a manual trail cam.

We met Rita out there after 2:-00 pm. We rearranged the trap area and freshened it up with good smelling yummy smells. Then we moved our cellular cam to a different tree since coverage was spotty to try and get reception and behold the camera was transmitting perfectly. We still set the manual cam just in case the cellular cam stopped transmitting.

We set a schedule that was going to check trap since we couldn't really trust the camera to transmit and we left area. Upon hitting right outside of Paulden I started receiving photos of the trap area but no dog was in the photos. I had a feeling so I pulled over and was monitoring the cams.

Another picture came in and still nothing then another and suddenly, there she was her face down smelling the aroma of the chicken in the trap. She could have been easily been missed if not paying attention. We knew it was a 50/50 chance of her going all the way in since she only went in 3/4 in the middle of the night.

Pictures kept coming in of her going round and round the trap. I sent pictures to YHT trapping team and asked them to pray she would be there. We were all on pins and needles. Then the next transmission came in of her being securely in the trap with the door closed! God is good!!

We returned to the trapping area, then called Rita to let her know the great news. It was the best feeling in the world. We met back in the area to meet this precious soul that was in this world alone until a woman made a difference and was determined to save her.
